I should know more after the contest on Sunday.. will post then.. Not sure how long this will stay up but I'll try to keep posted as long as possible.

2/18/09 - In what can only be described as a Marathon Trek, Nor Cal is sending two of its TOP MASTERS Pilots to Phoenix. Leaving on 2/18, and heading to Lancaster, where Jerry Budd will house, but not feed, the pilots, part of the long journey has taken place. Leaving early Thursday morning, several from Lancaster will head to Phoenix for Thursday and Friday flying / practice, before the Saturday contest starts. Turnout is expected to be large for this first contest of 2009. Oh, the pilots would be Chris Fitzsimmons (the 2008 Masters Champ) and Jon "How do I do an 8-Point Roll" Carter. Both are expected to do well at the contest, but it's yet to be seen if CF can pull it together with his new Beryll, which he will fly in the first contest. Speculation is that CF will be rough to beat once he gets this plane dialed in - but Rusty and Jerry will be in early-season top form for sure. Good Luck Nor Cal!
2/19 - Our boys arrived safely.. Newman, Leasberg (sp), and a few others are there already getting in some flights. Jon and Chris have flown 3 today - weather perfect, 70, no wind. More later.

Pattie Fayad
1959 - 2009 (1/18/09)

I recall Team Fayad, as serious as any of us, attending contests and enjoying our sport, as part of our Family. Pattie would judge and was always willing to help out at contests. In more recent years, Pattie and John spent time raising their family and actively participating with their children. John and Pattie were making plans to get back into pattern in the next year or two.

Pattie will be missed by all that knew her.

Pattie was everyone's friend and a Mom to some. I met Pattie in 1990. I had only been involved with Pattern for a few years when Pattie & John appeared at the Hanford, Ca. contest. John, like most of us, was looking for help and advice from the veteran pilots. Pattie, with their two children in tow was happily helping her husband prepare his airplane for the contest. I remember Pattie for years to come would sit with Dorothy Speights in the Judges Chair trying to learn as much as she could from the master. They did not always agree, but that was what made Pattie so special. It is hard to remember a contest in the past without Pattie taking charge and almost running the show with us CD's somewhere in the background relaxed and enjoying the day with friends knowing that Pattie was at the Helm. Pattie could sit in the hot sun judging a flyer's performance, keep one eye on the kids and oversee the scoring program all at the same time.
Sometime in 2001 their focus switched toward their daughter Tiffany. Tiff (as we all called her) was about to enter High School and would soon want to travel with the high school band, as she was very interested in music. I spent a day with John and Pattie in June of 2005 while attending Dennis Breene's wedding. John had purchased a road bike and they were enjoying traveling around the state with a bike club. Pattie was contimplating weight loss surgery and finally had it done soon after.
On January 21, 2009, I received a phone call from John. He explained to me that Pattie had passed away last Sunday the 18th. The exact cause of her death was not disclosed to me. Pattie will be in my memory forever, as a loving wife, mother, and friend to all.
